Family photo sessions: Tips for Moms

Hi there! My name is Mikenna, I am a Connecticut based Motherhood and Family Photographer. My family sessions are relaxed and care free. I never want my families - especially mamas - to be stressed out during our session. Here are just a few tips on how to have a successful, laid back and enjoyable family session.

-- Focus on connection with your family!

If during your session, you are feeling uncomfortable or don't know what to do. Grab someones hand, steal a cuddle or find a way to connect with your kids or husband.

--Forget about posing, but don't forget the camera!

During my sessions, I strive to tell your family’s story through honest and organic moments. This means not necessarily posing for the camera the whole time. However, even though you may not be posing, be aware of positioning yourself towards the camera. Even if you forget this one, your photographer should be moving their body enough to get a good angle but just keep it in mind.

--Your photographer is freezing this moment in time for you!

I have photos in my home that I look at and can remember the exact feeling I was feeling in that moment. You will remember this day for the rest of time, simply because you have these photos that you will look back on. My BIGGEST tip is to not worry about your child's behavior or wether they are smiling. If you are stressed about your kids, scolding them, mad at your husband etc... you will remember that feeling every time you look back on these photos. Try to be engaged in the moment and enjoy all that it brings!
